Enable or Disable the CD-ROM Autorun Feature

Many times it gets irritating that you insert a CD-Rom inside your comp and it autoruns. Here are 2 easy solutions for the same.

(1) To stop CD-Rom from autorun feature, press hold SHIFT key till the CD is being read after being inserted. If you want to permanently disable this feature try the trick below .

(2) You can enable/disable the CD-ROM autorun function by changing this registry setting, this will stop applications from auto launching when you insert a CD-ROM disc into your drive.
  • Open your registry and find the key below ( Start >> Run >> type 'regedit' >> Hit Enter ).
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ CDRom]

Value Name: Autorun
  • Change to value of 'Autorun', or create a new DWORD value if it doesn't already exist, and set the data to equal '0' for Autorun disabled.
  • Restart your computer for the changes to take affect.
