How to Play Portal 2 Co-Op mode over LAN


Recently, I posted How to Play Portal 2 Co-Op mode over Internet. This tutorial covers playing the same over LAN.

Portal 2 is the most talked about game now days. It is simply awesome jumping from one portal to another. Awesome concept and truly innovative, one of its kind game. You love puzzles with a twist, you will love this 1st person view game!

The best part of Portal 2 is the co-op mode by which 2 players can play it over a network, but the problem is, it's not a cup of tea to connect 2 PCs over LAN via Co-Op mode !

Follow the steps below to play the game over LAN :

(1) Decide which computer will act as host and which one as client. On both the computers enable Developer Console by going to Options > Keyboard / Mouse > Allow Developer Console > Enable.

(2) On the host computer, hit '~' ( the key b/w Esc and Tab ) to open the console. Type 'sv_lan 1' and hit enter.

(3) Note down the IP of host computer. To do so, goto start > run and type CMD and hit enter. Write 'ipconfig' in command prompt and hit enter. Note down the IP address.

(4) Now, in client machine, open Developer console as done before and type 'sv_lan_1'. Next type 'connect [ip_address_of_host]'. The IP address is the IP you got in step 3.

(5) In host computer, type 'map [map_name]' for e.g. 'map mp_coop_lobby_2'. The list of all maps is as follows :
