Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 : Features, Review & More

The Year 2013 was the year of Galaxy Grand, to me there seems more people with Galaxy Grand than number of stars in the sky. Well, jokes apart, Samsung Galaxy Grand was no doubt a ‘Grand’ phone with not so much of exceptional features but definitely an exceptional price for a phone with those ‘looks’ , ‘Screen Size’ and definitely the brand name Samsung attached to it. This year Samsung came up with Galaxy Grand 2 at a whooping price of INR 22,000. But, do its features justify the price tag? Let’s have a look into Samsung’s new offering the Galaxy Grand 2.

Design

The Grand 2 looks more or less like its predecessor Grand with round corners and faux-chrome finish. This time the finish comes with a leather faux finish thus giving a better grip to the handset.

The phone size is 5 inch thus a little big to be use single handedly. The Hard buttos are placed where they were on Galaxy Grand, the physical Home button being placed between the Back and Menu key.

Display

Galaxy Grand 2 comes with pixel dimensions of 1280x720 . This is where really Samsung has worked over Grand, as its screen display was not quite appreciable but in Grand 2 one can easily single out pixels. The screen does not come with Gorilla Glass protection so it is advisable to use phone with a cover or a screen guard.

Specifications

The processor offered by the phone is quad core clocked at 1.2 GHz along with 1.5 GB of RAM. The photographs are made better as the phone is coupled with an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. Grand 2 comes with internal storage of 8 GB, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0 dual SIM support, 3G connectivity and 2600 mAh battery. The phone’s signal reception is great signal with a clear and loud in-call voice.

Software & Benchmarks

The Phone is coupled with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, although with the Touch Wiz layer on top the phone’s UI s not much different than Grand. The Design elements are loud with big icons and same sound pack.

The additional features which have been introduced in the phone are Multi-window, thus giving an option of working in dual screen more. The notification panel has Wi-Fi, GPS, silent mode and brightness slider which is in toggle mode. ‘My Magazine’ is also an addition to the phone which gives similar features as HTC provides. The phone runs smoothly and perform perfectly with almost most of the applications we tested it on.

Camera

The camera is an 8 megapixel camera lens with camera options loaded with Beauty Face, Best photo, Continuous shot, Sound and Shot, HDR, Panorama and sports. When compared to other camera phones available in market Grand 2 offers a decent camera at this price and performs decently in well-lit conditions. The videos are recorded at 30 frames per second a resolution of 1080p

Sound

The phone offers a decent sound quality and the bundles earphones are too good. A number of audio settings are featured where you can experiment with equalizers and virtual surround effects. The out-of-the-box subtitles are also supported.

Battery

The phone comes with 2600 mAh battery. On testing the phone, the normal usage makes the phone last for over a day and a half.

Verdict

The New Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is surely an improved version of Galaxy Grand when compared to any if the attributes like screen, camera or battery life. At a price of INR22,000 Its surely a deal to grab on!
