Lava, the renowned mobile phone maker has launched its entry level phone focusing on selfies. The phone is called as Lava Iris X1 Selfie and is being sold with a competitive price of tag INR 6,777 at all major brand retail outlets as well as online channels. Let us see what’s in store for us with the launch of this selfie centric budget smartphone from Lava.


Let’s start with the Lava Iris X1 Selfie’s forte, the camera. We were really amazed with high quality pictures produced by a budget phone’s camera. Primary camera (rear camera) is of 8 megapixel while front one, is 5 megapixel flash LED camera, which is capable of taking clear selfies even in low light conditions.

Also, the primary camera is capable of capturing high quality  photos and videos. Front camera lens is specially designed to be of large aperture for fast action shots.

Gesture controls are also supported with the camera. For front camera drawing “V” will click you a picture, alternatively, voice commands of “cheese” or “capture” will also take a picture for you. Instead, you can also just tap on the screen to focus and click your selfies.

Autofocus, burst mode, digital image stabilization, digital zoom, face detection, geo-tagging, gesture shot, HDR capture and Beauty-Fi are some extremely useful features of the camera.

In-built software, Beauty-fi, plays primary role in making your clicks look beautiful. The software predominantly enhances picture quality and edits physical appearance through different modes of eye lashes color, eye-enlargement, face boundary slimming, teeth whitening, make-up between eyes and eyebrows. Also, to improvise skin texture in a picture the software has edit modes of skin smoothening, skin toning, skin whitening and skin coloring.


Lava Iris X1 Selfie has a perfect size screen, not too large and not too small, 4.5 inch IPS display screen. Display is crisp and pretty sharp with pixel density of 218 PPI. Asahi’s Dragontrail Glass protects the 854X480 pixels resolution screen.

Ambient Light Sensor, Multi touch and Proximity sensor are other important features of the phone’s display.


Iris X1 Selfie promises to deliver a talk time of around 8 hours. The battery is replaceable and is a powerhouse of 2000 mAh Li Polymer battery capacity.

Hardware Specifications

This selfie smartphone centric phone runs on latest Android Lollipop v5.1 and it runs butter smooth and stable, thanks to quad core MediaTek MT6580 processor. CPU Clock is clocked at 1.3 GHz and phone has 1 GB RAM.

Lava Iris X1 Selfie’s base model has 8 GB of internal storage space which can be extended upto 32 GB with an external micro SD card. This storage space is enough to store you favorite movie, music, videos, songs, files or TV series.

Connectivity and Features

The phone has wireless connectivity options of 3G, 4.0 Bluetooth, Mobile hotspot Tethering, and Wi-Fi while 3G (HSDPA/CDMA) and Edge/2G (GSM/GPRS) are the network connectivity options available.

Sensors include an accelerometer, digital compass and GPS.


At a price of INR 6,777 Lava Iris X1 Selfie is a great phone with great front and rear cameras. Android 5.1 Lollipop with a smooth UI is difficult to put down; moreover, a power house of 2000 mAh battery with superfast processor is a show stopper. All in all a great, pocket friendly phone, perfect in every ounce.
