CoolPad Note 3 : Budget Smartphone with Amazing Specs & Performance


If you were asked “what to expect in a high end smart phone”, the obvious answer would include at least a 3GB RAM, high resolution camera, HD display, minimum 3000mAh battery and maybe a finger print scanner. But if we tell you can get all of these specs in a mid-range smart phone would you believe us? Well, not really if there hadn’t been CoolPad Note 3.

CoolPad Note 3 is a product of Coolpad, a Chinese company, in partnership with Dazen, another Chinese company. Let us have a closer look into the specs of this new show stopper of smartphone world.

Design

Coolpad Note 3, has a design which is much like any other smart phone with curved edges at the back finished in a stain resistant soft matte coined as Baby skin by Coolpad.

The back cover is removable containing a removable battery, two micro sim card slots and a micro SD card slot. Also, at the back you can find a fingerprint scanner resting below a 13 MP camera and LED flash.

Display

Coolpad Note 3 has a 5.5 inch big screen offering good viewing angles with vibrant screen. The screen is high definition with 720x1280 pixel resolution having 267 ppi pixel density. The display panel is good with touch to response offering an excellent brightness level.

Hardware & performance

Priced at Rs. 8,999, you will be amazed to know that Coolpad Note 3 is a high configuration phone. Powered by a 1.3GHz 64-bit Mediatek MT6753 octa-core processor, and a 3 GB RAM, this phone is the only one in market with such power at this price. Also, Storage is 16 GB which is up-to 64GB expandable via microSD card.


CoolPad Note 3 offers connectivity options of 4G LTE in both SIM’s 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi.  
We have been using this phone for almost two weeks and we did not find any lag of any sort. The phone runs pretty smooth while multi-tasking, switching between the apps, playing high-end games or viewing HD videos.


The phone is coupled with a 3000mAh battery which lets it run continuously for 8 to 10 hours on mild usage.

Camera

We found the camera pretty good with a 5 piece lens arrangement of 1.4 micron pixel size an f2.0 aperture. The rear camera also supports 1080p full-HD video recording accompanied by an LED flash.

Front camera for selfies is a 5 MP one, with no shutter lag and an ability to quickly focus objects. Also, we find camera pretty decent with the quality of pictures it produced. With accurate color reproduction, nice level of detailing and good contrast the camera came out pretty decent for us.

Software

Coolpad Note 3 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop displaying on top of CoolPad’s custom UI 6.1. The unified app launcher, home screen, customized interface and themes some of the different features of this UI. Also, there is no separate app drawer but all the apps are displayed on the home screen itself. Other pre-loaded apps include WeChat, Facebook, SwiftKey, WPS Office, FP Lock, CoolShow, Cool Store, Rock Wallpaper and more. Other smart features include wakeup gestures, glove mode and cover mode.


The phone also supports a fingerprint scanner which supports authentication, launch apps, perform gesture functions and carry out functionalities like activating camera shutter.

Verdict

CoolPad Note 3 is the biggest sensation of this year. It is very difficult to find mid-range smartphones comprising of great hardware and software specifications and CoolPad Note 3 justifies it very well. So if you are planning to buy a good phone with high specifications CoolPad is a best buy and is living up-to company’s offering.
