1) Pick A Size

The size of the laptop is the first and foremost decision to be taken. There is no thumb rule to it and it totally depends on one’s requirement and comfort zone. If you tend to focus towards gaming or work then a 17- inch screen laptop would help. Along with the screen, it will also have a decent sized keyboard. But remember, it will be bigger and heavier than a 13-inch one, so it won’t be travel-friendly but will be more or less like an at home laptop. Alternatively, if your requirements are for a super lightweight laptop, go for 13inch - 11inch screen.

2) Screen Resolution

Once the size is decided, the next thing to ponder is screen resolution. Minimum resolution generally offered by manufacturers is 1366x768. In simple terms, to accommodate a greater number of pixels in a smaller area the operating system scales up for a better visibility of text and icons.

To have a better idea of the resolution, before buying online, visit the nearby store and check for the visibility and how it suits your eyes.

3) Keyboard

This one is top in our priority, a comfortable typing is the key to a happy laptop - human relation! The keyboard size is directly proportional to laptop size and its config changes with each screen size. If you are an avid user of ‘Home’, ‘ End', Page Up’ or ‘ Page down’ make sure to look for these physical keys or how these can be replicated with function keys.

4) Touchpad

The touchpad's positioning and feel are as essential as a keyboard. These days laptops are amazing but their touchpads, loaded with gestures can be awful. This may lead you to always carry an external mouse.

5) Form Factor

Next, decide on the laptop type, a traditional one or a trendy one where the laptop can be converted to a tablet or a touchscreen enabled device for more creative ones. There are laptops where screen can be completely detached, converting them to tablets and waving them off the keyboard weight.

6) Connectivity

The light weighted, sleek designs mostly tend to loose on the number of ports provided. So, always list down your requirements, what need to be plugged in to your laptop and what can be discarded. Look if the laptop offers required number and type of ports.

7) Performance

Till now you should have made a decision of the look and feel of laptop, now it is time for what works inside! If you are budget constraint, go for the one which has at least 4GB RAM, this will enable you to open multiple browser windows. If the requirement revolves around video editing, choose with a RAM of 8GB and above.

While choosing a processor, go for at least Intel Core i3 which will make office work comfortable. Intensive tasks like image and video edition should be covered with Core i7. If your desired laptop offers AMD processors, go for the one which is powered by at least an A8 or A10.

8) Graphics

Mostly laptops are coupled with Intel HD Graphics which can comfortable play low resolution 3D games. If you are a serious gamer go for a laptop with a dedicated Nvidia or AMD graphics chipset.
