Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 : Review, Features & More


It’s the Android Smart phone market which is a big hit and requirement for today. The Android smartphone giant Samsung might seem dormant right now but the idea behind this mini hibernation is to focus on its premium products to keep on generating revenues and thus maintaining its zenith. Though having a low profile these days in terms of launching of new smartphones Samsung has still lined up its Mega series. The two models are Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8. As we already know from Samsung’s past trends, if two models of same series are launched then one has to be dual SIM while the other is single SIM, same goes with the Mega series. The 6.3 model is single SIM while 5.8 is dual SIM. The phones got their names coined according to their screen sizes, they have robust processors decent looks and run on Android Jelly Bean version 4.2.2.

Design


When coming to design, the Mega versions might look alike but the main difference lies in the screen size. Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 sport a 6.3” TFT capacitive touch-screen and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 with 5.8” TFT capacitive touch-screen. The user interface used is similar to that of Samsung Galaxy S4 with a screen resolution of 720p. The inbuilt apps Air View and Smart stay have been worked upon a bit more and hence have grown better in this series. The main feature when compared to other phones of similar specifications available in market is its screen size.

Specifications

Within the Mega series, although the phone look similar but there specifications have huge difference. Mega 6.3 has a 1.6 GHZ Krait Dual-core CPU while the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 gets on with a dual-core 1.7 GHZ CPU. Both phones are mounted on latest Android version, Jelly Bean 4.2.2, available in the market while the existing Android users are still awaiting to get their phones upgraded to latest version.

Camera and Multimedia

Mega series has both the phones armed with same camera specifications of 8 mega pixel. Along with high camera resolution provided the camera provides full HD support of 1080 p with 30 frames per second. The phones also has a secondary 1.9 MP camera, it offers decent video calling and crisp images. For cameras and Samsung there should be no doubt in anybody’s mind as it is now a universal truth that Samsung provides good quality cameras for its smartphones.

Connectivity

Samsung has lived upto its expectation onto deliver best quality, speed and connectivity to its customers therefore the Mega series has lived to the same. They support various browsing platforms like GPRS and EDGE. The smartphones comes bundled with HSDPA 2.1Mbps and 5.76 Mbps speed with regard to the HSUPA but then the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 also supports LTE, 50 Mbps UL, 100 Mbps DL, Cat3as well. Both the phones of Mega series are WiFi enabled with 802.11 a/ b/g/n/ac, dual band and they support Wi-Fi hotspot. Along with Wi Fi Bluetooth and USB connectivity are also available . While on comparison of both, The Mega 6.3 is better when comes to USB connectivity as well as it supports USB on the go.

Memory

Both the phones of Mega series supports expandable memory through and external MicorSD card slot and are equipped with 1.5 GB RAM. Mega 5.8 offers an internal memory of 8 GB while Mega 6.3 further comes with two models , one with 8GB internal memory and other with 16 GB.

Battery

Among other mentioned differences between the two Galaxy Mega models, one comes with the battery as Mega 5.8 offers 2600mAh while 3200mAh is offered by Galaxy Mega 6.3. The batteries seemed promising with considerable battery life and phone talking hours.

Other features

The phones also offer additional fun utilities and apps, accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity and compass are quite few among them while the rest you can always download from the Google app store.

Conclusion


The Mega Series is yet another weapon thrown from Samsung in order to sustain market and continue generating revenues. The target market of the series seems to be high end as the phones are prices at approx. Rs. 24000 for Mega 5.8 while Mega 6.3 is approx priced at Rs. 30000. The phones aim to keep the market busy with Samsung’s models till it launches its yet another model of much awaited Note III. Talks apart the two models seems really promising in all its features , from battery life to connectivity to stature.
